Budha-Aditya yoga
The Sun and Mercury together.
- Formed when
- The Sun and Mercury are in the same sign
- Also called
- Nipuna yoga, the yoga of skill
- How common
- Very common, because Mercury is never more than about 28° from the Sun
The Sun (Aditya) and Mercury (Budha) together are said to give intelligence, skill and a good reputation for it. Since Mercury is always near the Sun, about half of all charts have them in one sign.
The useful question is whether Mercury is combust: within about 14° of the Sun (12° when retrograde), when the Sun’s light overwhelms it. Many astrologers count the yoga only when Mercury is outside that orb, and when the sign and house are good. Our free kundli marks combust planets.
Does your chart have it?
The free kundli finds this yoga and the others on this list in your chart and says which planets form it.
Sources: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (Pancha Mahapurusha, raja, dhana, Sunapha, Anapha, Durudhara and Kemadruma yogas) and Phaladeepika (Gajakesari, Adhi, Amala, neecha bhanga and the viparita yogas). The results are summarised in our own words. A yoga gives its result in proportion to the strength of the planets forming it, and mainly in their dashas.
