Gajakesari yoga
Jupiter in an angle from the Moon: the elephant and the lion.
- Formed when
- Jupiter is in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house counted from the Moon
- Source
- Phaladeepika; also Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra
- How common
- Very common: about one chart in three
The name joins gaja (elephant) and kesari (lion): strength with dignity. Phaladeepika describes a person who is renowned, wealthy, intelligent and of good character, and whose reputation lasts.
Because Jupiter is in an angle from the Moon in about a third of all charts, the yoga alone means little. It counts when Jupiter and the Moon are both strong: not debilitated, not combust, and preferably not aspected by malefics. A bright, waxing Moon helps.
Does your chart have it?
The free kundli finds this yoga and the others on this list in your chart and says which planets form it.
Sources: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (Pancha Mahapurusha, raja, dhana, Sunapha, Anapha, Durudhara and Kemadruma yogas) and Phaladeepika (Gajakesari, Adhi, Amala, neecha bhanga and the viparita yogas). The results are summarised in our own words. A yoga gives its result in proportion to the strength of the planets forming it, and mainly in their dashas.
