Raja yoga

The lords of angles and trines linked: Parashara’s yogas of status and success.

In one planet

For Parashara, the angles are the pillars of a chart (effort and action) and the trines are its fortune (merit and grace). When their lords join, effort meets fortune, and the result is status, authority and success.

The strongest link is between the lords of the 9th and 10th houses. A single planet that rules both an angle and a trine, a yogakaraka, is a raja yoga by itself: Saturn for Taurus and Libra ascendants, Mars for Cancer and Leo, Venus for Capricorn and Aquarius. See the yogakaraka guide.

Raja yogas are common. What matters is the strength of the planets, whether they also rule a difficult house, and when their dashas run.

Does your chart have it?

The free kundli finds this yoga and the others on this list in your chart and says which planets form it.

Sources: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (Pancha Mahapurusha, raja, dhana, Sunapha, Anapha, Durudhara and Kemadruma yogas) and Phaladeepika (Gajakesari, Adhi, Amala, neecha bhanga and the viparita yogas). The results are summarised in our own words. A yoga gives its result in proportion to the strength of the planets forming it, and mainly in their dashas.
