The 10th house in Jyotish

The 10th house, Karma bhava, governs career, status, action, authority and reputation. In whole-sign houses, the house is the 10th sign counted from the ascendant; its sign, its lord, the planets in it and the planets aspecting it together describe these matters.

Its natural significator (karaka) is the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. Parashara’s rule is to judge a house from its lord, from the planets in it and from its karaka together.

It is a kendra (angular house), a pillar of the chart; an upachaya (house of growth), where malefics do well; an artha house. Benefics placed here strengthen the chart; the lords of kendras and trikonas joining form raja yogas.
