The 1st house in Jyotish
The 1st house, Tanu bhava, governs the body, appearance, health, temperament, fame and the overall course of life. In whole-sign houses, the house is the 1st sign counted from the ascendant; its sign, its lord, the planets in it and the planets aspecting it together describe these matters.
Its natural significator (karaka) is the Sun. Parashara’s rule is to judge a house from its lord, from the planets in it and from its karaka together.
It is a kendra (angular house), a pillar of the chart; a trikona (trine), a house of fortune; a dharma house. Benefics placed here strengthen the chart; the lords of kendras and trikonas joining form raja yogas.
