The 3rd house in Jyotish
The 3rd house, Sahaja bhava, governs courage, younger siblings, effort, communication, short journeys, the hands and the ears. In whole-sign houses, the house is the 3rd sign counted from the ascendant; its sign, its lord, the planets in it and the planets aspecting it together describe these matters.
Its natural significator (karaka) is Mars. Parashara’s rule is to judge a house from its lord, from the planets in it and from its karaka together.
It is an upachaya (house of growth), where malefics do well; a kama house. Malefics here can actually do well, because these houses grow with effort.
